Pricing checked: 12 August 2026. Mixed pool systems: $220–$560/m; aluminium pool panels: $180–$340/m; frameless glass: $350–$650/m. Gates, consent, substrate and documentation are separate unless stated.
Pool-fence cost is built from barrier length, system, mounting surface, corners, gate hardware and compliance work. The cheapest panel does not create the cheapest compliant barrier if the substrate requires reconstruction or the layout needs several gates.
| System | Planning range | Main cost lever |
|---|---|---|
| Aluminium vertical panel | $180–$340/m | Panel/post system, foundations and gate |
| Mixed/semi-frameless | $220–$560/m | Glass proportion and hardware |
| Frameless glass | $350–$650/m | Spigots/channel, glass gate and substrate |
Illustrative 16 m layout
At the typical aluminium rate of $245/m, 16 m of infill is $3,920 before the compliant gate, foundations, consent and documentation. At the typical frameless-glass rate of $485/m, the same infill is $7,760 before those same categories. This comparison isolates material/system choice; it is not an all-in quote.
Substrate questions
- Sound concrete, pavers, timber deck or membrane?
- Top-mounted, side-mounted, channel or post foundation?
- Does existing structure support the specified loads?
- Who designs and warrants blocking, edge distances and waterproofing?
Compliance cost is not optional
A new pool barrier requires the correct consent pathway and must meet Building Code F9 as a complete system. Price gate operation, immediate pool area constraints and inspection/documentation responsibilities. Do not rely on a product advertised as “pool fence” without a compliant site design.

Mixed-system planning range
A broad Auckland pool-barrier planning range is $220–$560 per lineal metre, with $360/m as a middle point. It spans standard aluminium through glass-heavy solutions, so it should never replace a system-specific quote. Budget by component
- Compliant panels and supports by system and length.
- Self-closing, self-latching pool gate and robust gate posts.
- Concrete, deck or channel substrate work and waterproofing details.
- Survey/design information, building consent and inspection-related documentation.
- Removal or alteration of existing barriers, paving and landscaping.
Two 18 m concepts
An 18 m standard aluminium concept at $245/m gives $4,410 of panel planning allowance. The same length in frameless glass at $485/m gives $8,730. Both still need the gate, consent pathway and address-specific substrate scope; the arithmetic shows why “pool fence per metre” is not enough.
Compliance has no value-engineering shortcut
Pool barriers fall outside the ordinary Schedule 1 fence exemption. Define the immediate pool area and complete barrier before pricing. A lower quote that omits compliant gate operation, documentation or suitable foundations is not equivalent. Read NZ pool-fence requirements and compare glass with aluminium.
The pool fence calculator can compare panel mixes, but it does not certify compliance or include every consent/site cost.
