Pricing checked: 12 August 2026. Coated-steel privacy planning range: $170–$300/m, typical $230/m. Confirm whether the quoted system actually uses branded COLORSTEEL material.
The panel is only one cost. Posts, rails, stepping, cutting, bottom clearance, gates and exposure treatment determine how the system performs. A straight flat run with standard bays prices differently from a sloping boundary with short custom infills.
Quote the product identity
- Panel/system manufacturer and exact coating/substrate.
- Whether “COLORSTEEL” is a verified branded product description.
- Posts, rails, caps and fasteners.
- Approved cutting and cut-edge method.
- Address-specific warranty and maintenance requirements.
Illustrative 28 m run
28 × $230/m = $6,440 for typical coated-steel infill. Add removal, gates, difficult access and non-standard stepping separately. If a quote is much lower, inspect post/foundation specification and whether GST, disposal or cut-edge treatment is omitted.
| Site condition | Cost mechanism |
|---|---|
| Slope | More posts, stepped panels or custom cuts |
| Coastal exposure | Product selection, compatible hardware and maintenance |
| Short broken runs | More ends, cuts and mobilisation per metre |
| Gate | Framed moving leaf, posts and hardware |
Read the product and warranty verification guide, then compare coated steel with timber. Use the calculator with removal and gate inputs rather than applying the metre rate alone.

Use the range for coated-steel privacy systems
Our current Auckland planning range is $170–$300 per lineal metre, with $230/m as a middle assumption. It is not a universal COLORSTEEL® product quote: brand, panel profile, posts, environment and installer system must be confirmed. Cost drivers specific to sheet fencing
| Driver | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Panel and post system | Section sizes, rails and accessories differ between systems |
| Stepped ground | Short bays and level changes increase cuts and labour |
| Coastal exposure | Product suitability, maintenance and warranty conditions change |
| Cut edges | Site detailing affects coating durability |
| Two-sided appearance | Boundary presentation may require a different profile or lining solution |
Example: 27 m with a pedestrian opening
Infill at the typical point gives 27 × $230 = $6,210. Add the separately specified gate, terminal posts, demolition and any short stepped bays. The example is a planning calculation, not a quote; a narrow or highly stepped job may not achieve a per-metre rate derived from a long straight run.

Record the manufacturer/system, metal and coating description, panel height and profile, post/rail specification, fixings, treatment of cuts, bottom clearance, colour on each face, gate framing and exposure limitations. Compare maintenance and repairability against timber and aluminium.
