Pricing checked: 12 August 2026. Residential aluminium planning range: $180–$380/m, typical $275/m. Open panels, dense privacy slats and custom gates are different specifications.
Panel openness changes the price
A simple vertical picket panel uses less aluminium and fabrication than a near-solid privacy screen. Record slat/picket face, clear gap, panel width, height, frame, posts and powder-coat system. Custom curves, stepped panels and concealed fixings add workshop and site labour.
| Format | Cost tendency | Primary use |
|---|---|---|
| Open vertical panel | Lower within aluminium range | Boundary, pool-style visibility |
| Standard slat panel | Middle | Modern frontage and partial screening |
| Dense/custom privacy | Upper or above range | Targeted privacy and architectural work |
| Gate | Separate item | Moving frame, hardware and posts |
Illustrative 22 m boundary
22 × $275/m gives $6,050 for typical infill. A custom pedestrian gate, difficult footings, powder-coat upgrade or irregular stepped bays sit outside that simple multiplication. Obtain a fabrication drawing so the visual density in the quote matches the design shown.
Coastal specification
Aluminium resists ferrous rust, but the powder coat, pretreatment, fixings, hinges and dissimilar-metal contacts still need address-specific specification and maintenance. Ask for coating standard, colour, environmental limitations and cleaning schedule.

Current planning range and its boundary
The structured Auckland planning range used here is $180–$380 per lineal metre, with $275/m as a middle planning point. It describes a straightforward residential vertical or simple slat system; custom fabrication, dense privacy, gates and difficult foundations can sit above it. Three scopes that should not share one rate
- Open boundary panels: repeated standard bays, simple corners and accessible footings.
- Dense privacy slats: more material, tighter fabrication tolerances and higher wind actions.
- Architectural frontage: custom bay widths, concealed details, mailbox/intercom integration and a matching gate.
At the typical planning point, 18 m of standard infill is 18 × $275 = $4,950 before gates and special work. A valid quote should separate panels, posts, footings, fabrication, coating, gates, removal and electrical work.
Coating and hardware questions
Ask for the alloy/system, pretreatment, powder product, colour, warranty conditions and cleaning schedule appropriate to the address. Confirm fasteners, hinges and latches as separate components; aluminium infill does not protect unsuitable ferrous hardware from corrosion. Near the coast, address dissimilar-metal contact and cut or drilled coating repairs.
What to send for a firm quote
Provide a dimensioned run, heights, actual slat/picket and clear-gap dimensions, number and width of gates, slope treatment, photos of access and ground, desired visible face and coastal exposure. Compare at least two quotes against that same schedule. The fence cost calculator is useful for a first range, while Aluminium Fencing Auckland explains the system choices.
